Privacy
What geocode.net collects when you use the website, the free tools and the API, how long it is kept, and what is never collected.
Effective 13 October 2026.
This website
The site is static pages served by Cloudflare. Cloudflare's edge records standard request logs (IP address, user agent, URL, timestamp) for security and operations; we keep our own worker logs for a short period to debug problems. There are no advertising trackers and no third-party analytics scripts on these pages.
Your theme choice and, in the spreadsheet tool, your API key are stored in your browser's local storage so you do not have to re-enter them. They are not sent to us except as the key header on your own API calls.
The free tools and the homepage demo
Lookups you type into a free tool or the homepage demo are sent through this site to the API on a shared demo key, rate-limited per IP address. The address or coordinates you look up are processed to answer the request and appear in request logs for the retention period above. The "use my exact location" button asks your browser for a position only when you click it; the position is used for that one reverse lookup and is not stored by us.
The spreadsheet tool
Files you open in the spreadsheet tool are read in your browser and never uploaded to us. Only the address or coordinate text of each row is sent to the API, on your key, in batches. The results come back to your browser and you download them yourself.
Map embeds
Maps made with the map embed generator are shown by the page at geocode.net/embed, on this site or inside an iframe on someone else's. That page sets no cookies, stores nothing in the browser and calls no API: the map's position and label are in its own URL. Cloudflare's edge logs its requests like any other page, including which site embeds it, and the visitor's browser fetches map tiles directly from OpenFreeMap and the map library from Cloudflare's cdnjs. In the generator, address search works like the other free tools, and PNG images are drawn in your browser and never uploaded.
The API
API requests are metered per key by APIDirectory, which operates accounts, keys and billing under its own privacy policy. The API logs request metadata for metering, abuse prevention and debugging. The addresses, coordinates and IP addresses you send are processed to produce the response and are not sold, used to build profiles, or shared with third parties other than the infrastructure providers that host the service.
IP geolocation
The IP lookup endpoint returns city-level estimates from the DB-IP database. It does not identify people, and we do not combine lookups across requests.
Your rights and contact
To ask what we hold, correct it or have it deleted, use the support contact in your dashboard at dash.geocode.net. Account data is handled by APIDirectory.
Changes
We will update this page when practices change and note the effective date above.
