Terms of service

The service

geocode.net provides a geocoding API, a browser-based spreadsheet tool and free single-lookup tools (the "Service"), operated by APIDirectory. API keys, plans and billing are governed by the APIDirectory terms, which apply alongside these.

Your use

You may use the Service for any lawful purpose, including commercial products. You may store, copy, analyse, display and redistribute the results the API returns to you, for as long as you like, on every plan. You may not resell raw bulk access to the index as a geocoding service of your own, attempt to extract the underlying databases, circumvent metering or rate limits, or use the free tools or demo key in automated ways.

Limits

Free keys are limited to 10,000 lookups a month. All keys are limited to 20 requests a second; a batch request counts as one request. The free tools and homepage demo are rate-limited per IP address and are not for programmatic use.

Accuracy

Geocoding is an estimate. Every result carries an accuracy_type and score that describe how it was placed, and you are responsible for deciding whether a result is fit for your purpose. The Service is not designed for emergency response or for any use where an incorrect position could lead to injury or loss.

Availability

We aim for high availability and publish status at dash.geocode.net/status, but the Service is provided "as is" without a guaranteed uptime unless your plan says otherwise. We may change or retire endpoints with notice in the changelog and the API documentation.

Data sources

The Service is built from public-domain and permissively licensed data described on the licences page. Where a source requires attribution for public display of its results, that page gives the lines to use.

Liability

To the extent permitted by law, APIDirectory's total liability arising from the Service is limited to the fees you paid for it in the twelve months before the claim, and neither party is liable for indirect or consequential loss.
