How it works

Your position is matched to the nearest address, and that address is tested against the 2020 census tracts and block groups (TIGER/Line 2025). Tracts usually hold between 1,200 and 8,000 people and nest inside counties; block groups split each tract further.

The tract number printed on Census maps, like 413 or 95.07, is the last six digits of the GEOID with a decimal point before the final two. GEOID 10001041300 is state 10, county 001, tract 0413.00: Census Tract 413.

    "tract": "10001041300", "block_group": "100010413002", "zcta": "19904" } } }

Notes

  • CRA and HMDA reporting, many grant programmes and American Community Survey tables are keyed by the tract GEOID.
  • Tracts are redrawn every ten years. These are the 2020 tracts, so data keyed to 2010 tracts needs a crosswalk.
  • Nothing is requested until you click, and the position is not stored.
