How it works

Your position is matched to the nearest address, and that address is tested against the Census Bureau's state legislative district boundaries for both chambers: the upper chamber (the state senate) and the lower chamber (the house, assembly or house of delegates). Each state names its own districts, and the answer uses the state's names.

In your code

curl "https://api.geocode.net/v1/reverse?lat=39.1582&lng=-75.5247&fields=stateleg" -H "X-API-Key: YOUR_KEY"
{ "fields": { "state_legislative_districts": {
    "upper": { "district": "017", "name": "State Senate District 17", "geoid": "10017" },
    "lower": { "district": "031", "name": "State Representative District 31", "geoid": "10031" } } } }

Notes

  • Nebraska has a single chamber, so you get an upper district only.
  • Washington DC has no state legislature. The Census Bureau publishes its eight council wards in the upper-chamber layer, so in DC the answer is your ward.
  • Boundaries are from TIGER/Line 2025. Where a state redrew its legislative maps for 2026, the new districts arrive with the 2026 files.
  • Nothing is requested until you click, and the position is not stored.
