How it works

Your position is matched to the nearest address, and that address is tested against the Census Bureau's school district boundaries, which states report through the School District Review Program. Most of the country has unified districts covering every grade. Some states split elementary and secondary districts, and then the answer shows both.

In your code

curl "https://api.geocode.net/v1/reverse?lat=39.1582&lng=-75.5247&fields=school" -H "X-API-Key: YOUR_KEY"
{ "fields": { "school_districts": {
    "unified": { "geoid": "1000190", "name": "Capital School District", "grades": "PK-12" },
    "elementary": null, "secondary": null } } }

Notes

  • A district is not an attendance zone. Which school a child attends inside the district is set by the district, and the boundaries of individual schools are not in this data. The district's enrollment office has the answer.
  • Nothing is requested until you click, and the position is not stored.
