Free tool · GET /v1/geocode

Turn an address into coordinates.

Free address-to-latitude-and-longitude lookup for US addresses, with the accuracy type that says how the point was placed. Powered by the geocode.net API.

Free for a few lookups a minute on a shared key. Need more? Get a free key for 10,000 a month, or run a whole file through the spreadsheet geocoder.

Or use your own location.
Try an example, or type your own.

How it works

Type a US address and the geocoder returns a latitude and longitude, the standardised address it matched, and an accuracy_type that tells you whether the point is a rooftop address point, a position interpolated along the street's house-number range, or the centroid of a ZIP, place or county. Rooftop points come from the National Address Database; street ranges from TIGER/Line.

In your code

curl "https://api.geocode.net/v1/geocode?q=1600+Pennsylvania+Ave+NW+Washington+DC" \
  -H "X-API-Key: YOUR_KEY"
{ "results": [ { "formatted": "1600 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, DC 20500",
                 "location": { "lat": 38.897675, "lng": -77.036545 },
                 "accuracy": 1.0, "accuracy_type": "rooftop", "source": "nad" } ] }

Send street, city, state and postal_code separately if you already have them split, and add fields= to append Census, district, school or time zone data in the same call.

Notes

  • One unit per lookup. Free keys get 10,000 a month; this page uses a shared demo key with a per-minute limit.
  • Results are yours to store indefinitely. The index is built from public-domain data.
  • Have a whole file of addresses? The spreadsheet geocoder does them in batches in your browser.
